Supergirl Starz: Cyborg Superman

A few weeks ago there was a “bombshell” announcement that Jimmy Olsen would be appearing in the upcoming CBS Supergirl tv-show as a black man trying to date Supergirl’s alter ego. This was in the comic website news for a few days but quickly went away.

Today two more actors were cast in the Supergirl Tv-Show – the characters Hank Henshaw and Alex Danvers. This brings two books into the comic book speculation picture.

The Adventures of Superman 500 – Hank Henshaw becomes Cyborg Superman – This book has so many variants and arguably started the 90’s comic collector’s trade, with the death of superman storyline. This book should be largely ignored in reference to Supergirl speculation.

The Adventures of Superman #466 – This book features the first appearance of Hank Henshaw – and sells for around $20 online. This book can still be found in long boxes for under $10 – but it takes some digging. This book has the most potential out of all the books so far to explode in value – depending on how this character is used in the series. So far he’s stated as a villain which is great news!

Hollywood Daze: Sex Criminals

It appears as that Sex Criminals #1 first print has become a $50 book overnight. Why? It was announced today that Matt Fraction and wife Kelly Sue Deconnick have signed a two year contract to develop some of there creator owned work, with a Sex Criminals live action television show being the first part of the contract.

Right now the books to look for are Sex Criminals #1 Cover A – with graded signed copies already fetching between $150 and $180, and the Sex Criminals #6 Brimpception Variant.

tumblr_n9wugl0m3W1rbfui1o6_1280This book was done as a gift for “Sex Criminals biggest fans” with a print run estimated around 100.

The news today highlights Kelly Sue Deconnick’s involvement but doesn’t name a title, it also suggests that other series by Fraction could be in the works for adaptation. Some books to keep into consideration and look for in case of similar bumps in prices are Casanova #1, Satellite Sam #1, Pretty Deadly #1, Bitch Planet #1.

Buy it: Secret Origins #10

Secret Origins #10 comes out today (February 25) and as of last week it was sold out at the distributor. As of last week any copy appearing on ebay was quickly purchased, but why?
Screen shot 2015-02-24 at 11.26.34 PMSecret Origins #10 continues and “explains” the bomb shell that was dropped in Batgirl #39, where the Batgirl in the NEW 52 isn’t Barbara Gordon and was someone pretending to be Barbara Gordon, bringing the Oracle character back into the DC Comic universe, and introducing a “burnside” character.

$_57-2 If DC plays this well, this book will go into a second print and both Batgirl #39 and Secret Origins #10 will be sought after. This book is going to sell out fast at most comic book stores so act fast.

Now with the Oracle coming back, Suicide Squad #23, The first appearance of the Oracle, already a $35 – $50 book in its own right will gain more fan-interest.

Hollywood Daze: El Diablo Joins Suicide Squad

For the last two days there has been some speculation regarding Jay Hernandez being cast in the new Suicide Squad film. It looks like Jay Hernandez will be playing Chato Santana, the third incarnation of the super-villain El Diablo.

A rumour about Chato Santana appearing in the Suicide Squad film is not a new one, first circulating right out of the announcement of DC’s film – there are two Chato Santana books you should be looking for.

All Star Western #2 (1970)
All-StarWestern2vol2

This is the first appearance of El Diablo, El Diablo is pretty much the Zorro of the DC universe – Still widely available in near mint condition for around $70 to $100. Graded copies go for more and rougher shaped conditioned copies are obviously cheaper.

El Diablo #1 (Volume 4, 2009)El_Diablo_v.3_1.jpg

This is the first appearance of Chato Santana, the third incarnation of the El Diablo character. This is probably a better book to hold on to than All Star Western #2.

Arrowed: CW Arrow Cast Brings Deathbolt into the TV-Picture!

I did a CW Arrow TV-Show Comic Keys rundown a few weeks ago and I will be updating that very soon.
On Wednesday it was announced that the freaky looking guy from the Hellboy Movies, Doug Jones, has been cast in Arrow as the Super-Hero Villain Deathbolt. Deathbolt can literally inhale electrical energy which he than blasts at his enemies. Pretty much what I’m saying is, he’s Raiden from Mortal Kombat.

All-Star_Squadron_Vol_1_21
Deathbolt’s first appearance is All Star Squadron #21 from 1983. All reasonable copies on ebay have been sold however, this book is very findable in the wild for under $5!
This book has tremendous potential depending on how he is used and developed in the TV-Show!

Speaking of Raiden, the Mortal Kombat X, currently under development with a expected release date of April, seems to have a lot of really cool comic related downloadable content in the pipe stream. With Todd Mcfarlane giving the game developers permission to use Spawn and the plans of having Predator with Carl Weathers as a downloadable character – the comic book tie in is one you should be holding on to. Already hard to find, when the video game comes out, Mortal Kombat X #1 going to be on fire.
