Hollywood Daze: Caliban / X-Men Apocalypse

hitlist

A lot of my posts have been these Hollywood Daze recently. Don’t expect that to change, I have one or two more in the pipeline for the next few days! This is old news but news on a book you should be looking for.

Screen shot 2015-05-30 at 11.04.33 PM

Five days ago Bryan Singer, X-Men Apocalypse director confirmed via Instagram that he was currently filming Caliban’s place of business. Caliban, the character know one cared about until this very moment Caliban and the Morlocks came into the speculation foreground. The Morlocks are a group of disfigured mutants who for the most part shy away from public view, created and run by Caliban an albino / yellow eyed character. So it should be assumed that the Morlocks will appear in the upcoming film while Caliban has been confirmed.

Caliban’s first appearance is Uncanny X-Men #148 (1981) – This book has sold for upwards of $40 in raw NM condition but averages about $25 online. This book can still be found for about $10 in the wild. This is a book you should be holding on to.

Uncanny_X-Men_Vol_1_148The first appearance of the Morlocks is Uncanny X-Men #169 – this book in recent days has sold anywhere from $3 to $30. This is another book you should be looking for and holding on to. (If the Morlocks name sounds familair its because Morlocks #1, the first on-going series involving the characters features the first appearance of Angel Dust, appearing in the Deadpool film and discussed here.)

Hollywood Daze: Static Shock

hitlist

I hope you guys were listening to me two years ago when I said to start picking up Static Shock #1s. I didn’t want to report on this because its mostly rumour mongering with a side of crazy people but the book has been selling so I have to. There has been a big trend in talking about Static Shock in recent month so this small rumour could have some clout as a Jaden Smith Static Shock film was not only suggested but confirmed by Milestone founder, Michael Davis on Bleedingcool in October. but no one seemed to notice.

Last week a rumour started from an interview with Tyler James Williams (Everybody Loves Chris Actor) that started from him auditioning for super-character roles. He was asked about Static Shock and made an off-hand remark about how “Jaden” would be doing a great job with him, implying Jaden Smith son of Will Smith (Deadshot) would be playing Static Shock in an upcoming DC Film. And boom went the dinamite. Static Shock #1 has been selling from $15 to $25 and the Platinum edition Variant cover has been selling for upwards of $80! These are books that were almost worthless two weeks ago!

This is a book to be picking up while it can still be found at a relatively reasonable price.

Hollywood Daze: Wicked and Divine

hitlist

I havn’t posted in a while because I have been busy. I apologize for the hiatus.
This was pointed out on my facebook page by Nick Borelli, Wicked and Divine as announced by Deadline.com is being developed into a tv-show by Universal television (the same company that optioned Sex Criminals)

Since the announcement earlier today copies of this book have flown off ebay and first print copies have sold on ebay for $20. This book had eight retailer variant covers all limited to at least 1000 copies. Some variants are selling from $40 – $50. While the hype just starts for the Wicked and Divine TV-Show, Any cover first print #1 are the books to look for.

Hollywood Daze (AGAIN?!): Empire of the Dead

hitlist

A lot of titles have been getting picked up for TV or movie developement lately so I try not to report on them unless the book starts exploding or is starting to heat up. On Thursday news came out that George Romero’s Empire of the Dead, published by Marvel, was being developed into a television series. On thursday copies of Empire of the Dead #1, (a three part mini-series told in “acts”) was a $10 book, and a signed CGC 9.8 SS that was on ebay for the last year finally sold for $200. Fast forward to today, raw copies of this book are selling for $50 to $150.

Screen shot 2015-05-23 at 12.32.14 AM

George Romero’s Empire of the Dead #1 has two variant covers a 1:25 Frank Cho and a 1:75 Arthur Suydam. Both of these books were hard to find when they came out because this book wasn’t ordered in that high of a number on initial release. Those are the books that are going to be the most sought after. Those and Signature Series George Romero. This is a book you don’t want to be holding onto right now because prices are getting crazy and they have a high potential of crashing.

Dakoit Cave did a pretty good article about this before me, so I am clearly riding his coat tails. Check it out by click on this!

Hollywood Daze: Mad Max Fury #1 Vertigo Comics

hitlist

Max Max Fury Road, the fourth film in the Mad Max Franchise has been released with very high praise. Two weeks after its initial release it is still at a 98% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This week Vertigo / DC have released a comic, MAD MAX: FURY ROAD: NUX & IMMORTAN JOE #1, a 40 page comic with creative input from Mad Max (and Happy Feet) creator George S. Miller.
Screen shot 2015-05-22 at 7.09.28 PM

The comic, like the film, has been flying off shelves and has already sold out at Diamond while selling for upwards of $25 on ebay! Currently the book is averaging between $15 – $18, which is a big jump from its $4.99 cover price. Buy them while you can! Last year when Django Unchained came out it became an impossible to find collectible driving up the prices on ebay. This book can still be found in limited quantities in the wild!

Word?!?! Vengeance #1 / Miss America

Screen shot 2015-05-21 at 11.40.24 PM

Miss America is a pre-Marvel character published in a variety of stories published by Timely Comics in the 40’s. Marvel being marvel has launched a new female avengers title, A-Force, where the storyline is based around the new Miss America, America Chavez.

The roaster of the A-Force Team is She-Hulk, Dazzler, Medusa, Singularity and Nico Minoru (From Runaways). While the storyline so far is based around America Chavez, it is assumed she will eventually join the team. Since the release of A-Force #1, copies of the first appearance of America Chavez, Vengeance #1 (2011) have virtually disappeared from the online marketplace. Gone are the days of last week when copies of Vengeance #1 would sell for $2 in near mint condition! This book is now selling for $10 – $20 in Very Fine to Near Mint condition and the Villains variant cover (Available on Milehighcomics for $4 in near mint condition last week!) has sold online for upwards of $40!

$_57         IMG_0002

This book has a lot of potential of being in your local comic book stores back issue bins, while having just as much potential to lose all value by next week! This is not a book you should be holding on to!

Week in Review: Week of May 18

Screen shot 2015-03-30 at 3.40.18 PM

Now that everyone seems to be focusing on New Mutants, where the New Mutants #1 CGC 9.8 has more then doubled in price selling above $700 on auction! Now is not the time to be holding onto Marvel Graphic Novel #4s or New Mutants #1. In this week in review I’m going to talk about some other books I’ve ignored in the past few days that have seen upwards movement.

With Batman #40 selling out and the second print selling out before release, the second print, red cover has already been hitting the $10 price mark. If you can buy these for cover, a lot of potential to make some fast cash.

IMG

Captain Marvel #14 (2015) has been selling for between $15 and $35. This book involves the cross-over storyline Black Vortex, has roughly a 22,000 print run when compared to the 40,000 of the other cross-over stories. This book has a lot of potential to make a few bucks, with a high likelyhood of being at your local comic book store.

Another book to look out for is Mouse Guard Legends of the Guard Volume 3 #3 – this book was recalled by Boom because the printer used the wrong paper stock, as with all recalled books there is a lot of holding potential. So far one has sold on ebay for $15.

IMG_0001

(As pointed out on the CGC Boards) A book that has broken out of the $10 group is Batman #567 – the first appearance of Cassandra Cain as Batgirl. This could be because of the current trend towards female superheros or it could be because of the recent speculation that the Batgirl in Batman: Arkham Knight’s upcoming Batgirl Downloaded-able content Batgirl story was either Cassandra Cain or Barbara Gordon. (The company producing the game has confirmed its Barbara Gordon). Either way this book has been selling for $20 – $35 in Near mint condition hitting above $20 in Very Fine plus. This is a book to look out for.
