So I talked about this briefly last month, but next week sees the release of the new Howard the Duck series with an all-new Gwen-Pool (Gwen Stacy / Deadpool Mashup) back-up story. There appears to be five variant covers for this book (pending release date November 4 2015) but the clear winner already is the Howard the Duck Volume 6 #1 1:25 Gwen-Pool cover, the only cover featuring a solo Gwen Stacy / Deadpool.
This book has had multiple sales in the past few days at the $80 point. This 1:25 ratio variant is one to be looking for. Where as her first appearance Deadpool’s Secret Secret Wars #2 Gwen Pool cover is selling for $25 to $40 in near mint condition, this is her first actual story outside of a cover and should go up in value based on how Marvel uses the character down the line.
This was first talked about on CHU. Next week (november 4) sees the release of Stranger Comics’s Niobe: She is Life #1 Niobe: She is Life #1 from Stranger Comics is already sold out at the distributor level, already sold out on every findable comic presale website and is co-written by Game of Thrones star Amandla Stenberg. Niobe: She is Life #1 has been selling for $15 on ebay and is sure to be a $20+ book upon release, it is a book to be looking for. However, the character Niobe first appears in another comic also published by Stranger Comics.
Coming out in 2011 and with no association to Amandla Stenberg, The Untamed #1 features Niobe and the Niobe universe and was written by Niobe co-writer Sebastian A. Jones and also published by Stranger Comics- this is a book to be looking for as its sure to see an increase in value once the new series comes out.
This was first talked about Investcomics.com – like last week’s out of nowhere Sunflower #1, 451 Media is dropping a new series, Self Storage #1, and its already before the book comes out copies of Self Storage #1 are selling above cover! With multiple sales on ebay in the $15 range and with most presale comic stores already selling out of the title, Self Storage #1 looks like its this weeks winner three days before release.
Another book selling above cover is the recent IDW Back to the Future #1 Cover A. This book is selling in the $8 range, which is weird considering the perceived high print run and the 35+ different retailer covers. This book might only be selling for this much because of the recent Back to the Future Day events, however, this book is currently a quick money maker.
This book was talked about on Comicsheatingup, Sunflower #1 came out this week from 451 press and immediatley started selling in the $15 range, currently a $20 book, Sunflower #1 is a mini-series from a realitivly unknown publisher. I’m not sure the feature of this book but definitley a book to be looking for. The publisher is owned by Michael Bay and I’m not really sure what that means either.
A book that came out last week that I neglected to talk about was Straightjacket #1 from Amigo Press. This book has sold for up to $95 on ebay and has had sporadic sales the last week since its release anywhere from $10 to $20 to $60. The book seems to be cooling down the book seems to have a lower print run but its all speculation. I only started to read about this book having great content after it had the $95 sale so I’m not sure how manipulated the books sale are – but it is for sure one to be looking for. (Until it starts to cool down which as its looking now, is inevitable)
A voice in the Dark has seen a tremendous amount of buzz the past two days. Why? Because the creator Larime Taylor made this facebook post on monday.
Larime is hinting that his series, a voice in the dark, has been picked up for development by someone. I talked about this briefly before, A Voice in the Dark started out as a Kickstarter and was later picked up by Top Cow / Image comics as an on-going series. The kickstarter edition is the first appearance of the series and is the book to be looking for. Now is the time to be holding on to and hoarding Issue #1s (which have already had peak sales of $20+ on ebay) and the Kickstarter #1s.
Now that Preacher is closer to seeing its premier in mid-2016 it seems that Seth Rogen and team are shopping around other Garth Ennis projects. It seems that Seth Rogen is set on developing The Boys into a television series. The Boys is about a team of police agents that police or more, put in place, the super-heroes of the world. Its a brutal, sexual, awesome book in the same vein of Ennis’s other catalog of work. The Boys #1 to #6 were first published by Wildstorm which when bought out by DC cancelled the book. Ennis stated later that the book was cancelled by DC for its largely negative sentiment of Super-Heroes and Super-Heroe behaviour outside of comic books. The series was later picked up by Dynamite Entertainment where it ended at issue #72. The Boys #1 is going to see a huge increase from the $10 to $20 the book sold for last week.
Alias #1 also seeing a very nice increase in price for RAW sales while the Netflix series comes very close to premiering. At NYCC all the Jessica Jones actors got to sit down with Press and talk about the series – it was there that Wil Traval talked about his character, named Simpson – based on post-Vietnam War super Soliders. After this interview the rumour and suggestion started coming up that Nuke (Frank Simpson) would be appearing in Jessica Jones – which is very possible – Nuke sounds strikinly similar to the character Travel was describing. Nuke’s first appearance is a book you should have anyways, Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli’s collaborative effort in Daredevil #232 made Nuke one of the most unique villians of the 80s – and is a definite book to be looking for.
FX announced yesterday that they ordered a Pilot episode for a comic book project they were working on; Legion, and announced they were also developing a project related to the Helfire Club. This is great news for speculators as Legion is a characters whose first appearance regularly appears in dollar and three dollar bins – under $10 bins in high grade. Legion (David Haller) is the son of Charles Xavier – first appearing briefly in New Mutants #25 with a full origin in New Mutants #26. New Mutants #26 is the book to be looking for however New Mutants #25 is also a winner.
Both of these books regularly sold for under $4 on ebay but since yesterday have been peaking up to $30 (for Near Mint New Mutants #25). These two books are ones to look for.
There is also word out that the Hellfire Club is being developed by the same studio has a projected television series. It is unclear what incarnation will be used but X-Men #129 is a sure beat at this point.
Another book to be looking for at your local comic book stores that came out this week is Black Mask’s Clandestino #1 – already selling for double cover in the $8 to $10 range – this could be another big Black Mask title and not one to sleep on.
