Week in Review: November 26 / Black Friday

This weeks seems to be all about two things, second issues and black friday deals.

451 media seems to keep bringing the fire, with the second issue of Self Storage already hitting close to $10 on the secondary market and steadily selling for double cover – this book could have legs.

One book that has received a lot of speculation attention is Aimgo comics Straitjacket. Issue 2 came out this week and a lot of sites are pandering their “reported” 500 print run of the issue. This should be regarded as a false flag – the print run is much higher than 500 for this issue, the book will have a considerably lower print run than the first issue, which was under ordered and had a smaller print run, however the 500 reported print run is beyond a fallacy at this point. This book has been selling for $10 to $15 and is this weeks pump and dump winner.

Hot Topic is releasing four exclusive Funko Pop’s on friday in store (and available online on saturday) – this item is limited to 10 per person and is a mystery box that contains either a Grey Superman, a Grey Joker or a Grey Flash Figure – all exclusive to this box, there is also a Chase Variant – this is reported to be some kind of Harley Quinn – since the box is a blind box you won’t know what you get until you open the item. Some websites are reporting that this will be live tonight on the Hot Topic website – something to watch for as the official announcement was a online sale date of Saturday.

Another mystery box Funko is being released by Game Stop (in the US) and EB Games (in Canada) – With 5 different Game Stop Funko Pops and the chance to get a Gold figures – they are offering a Funko Box for $24.99. Great Spec Value on these boxes! (Most Gamestops / Eb Games open at 8:00 AM on friday!)

As is the trend with black friday, Skybound is the sure winner, offering exclusive items just for that day. Two Items to be sure to check out are the SAGA Lying Cat Statue – limited quantities available with a price tag of $70 – this will be the first non comic collector item from the Saga series. Skybound is also offering a set of the SDCC anniversary set as blue line art variants – these are sure to have great flip potential. The Link to the sale when live can be found here.

Hollywood Catchup: Mark Millar PSA / Unfollow #1

screen-shot-2015-03-30-at-3-40-18-pmThree books were officially picked up by Hollywood studios this week, really only ones important but I’ll touch on that last.

Huck01_CvrHuck #1 came out this week, penned by Mark Millar and drawn by Rafael Albuquerque. No surprise that it was optioned for a film adaptation weeks before its release, giving retailers the option to order more copies. This book has no speculation value – Millar knows that getting news websites to pick up his comics means his book will sell better so he uses it as a ploy – Its too formulaic as this point. Currently Huck #1 is selling for under cover on ebay – again, right now this is not a book to be picking up and holding on to as it as no speculation value.

65967-11272-98964-1-hawaiian-dick-1Another book to get optioned this week comes straight out of the dollar bin – Hawaiian Dick, an image series from 2002 – is being developed into a TV-series with Johnny Knoxville tagged along to be playing the main role. This book should increase in value over-time if development on this TV-show moves forward. Hawaiian Dick is a three part series and it is the first issue of the first series that is worth looking for.

The winner of this weeks announcements is a Vertigo title that came out at the beginning of the month, November 4, Unfollow #1. This book is being developed into a television series by Warner Brothers (Parent Company of DC Comics – Owner of Vertigo). Issue 2 is due to arrive December 2 – and with Unfollow #1s already hitting $10 on ebay you’re not going to want to miss out on this title. This book has the potential for long term value.

Week in Review: November 17

Two points of interest this week, All an old-news catch-up

Screen shot 2015-11-16 at 4.59.44 PM
Image’s Monstress #1 came out two weeks ago and has since sold out at diamond, is heading back to the printer for a second print and has Comicsheatingup.net said a few days ago, has been selling for double cover plus! This book is currently a $10 book! This book has been getting rave reviews for its interior artwork so you never know how long its shelf life might last! This is a book to be looking for!

Another book to be looking for that comes out this week and has already sold out at the distributor is Hero Hour #1. This book has been selling out at almost every presale comic website and has had a few sales around the $7 mark on ebay. This book has potential to be the book of the week!

One book that is seeing interest because of Marvel’s Contest of Champions storyline is Marvels, What If #4 – this book is a tough book in near mint condition and has been for some time because of its a early spider-man symbiotic suit cover – However, this book also features the first time Hulk is possessed by Venom. This book like What if #10 (What if Jane Foster had become Thor – First lady thor) will most likely jump up in price and than fall back to reality. Still a possible short term winner!

Week in Review: November 6: Old News Round-Up

Two points of interest this week, Doctor Strange Speculation and Recalled Watch.

Recalled Watch: Avengers vs Infinity #1

News broke tuesday night on Bleedingcool that retailers were informed to destroy there copies of Avengers vs Infinity #1 and that they would be getting replacement copies. And Sure enough this proved to be true – the book is missing the last pages of the story ending abruptly – some retailers held copies back and some sold them – copies are selling on ebay anywhere from $10 to $15. This book could have legs down the road so its not that bad of a book to be looking for and picking up. However, considering it is a Marvel book the print run will be high and the variant covers are the ones to look for. The 1:25 Ron Lim cover being the only variant cover will be the long term winner.

1497031_xlDoctor Strange Speculation of Speculation

Another piece of news to come out of comic land this week was the casting of Michael Stuhlbarg in the upcoming Doctor Strange film. His character has not been named officially however speculation grows that he is playing Doctor Nicodemus West. Largely based on the rerelease/reprinting of his first appearance, Doctor Strange the Oath #1, and being distributed this year as Marvel’s main Halloween Comic Festival title. The first prints are largely dollar books however there are a lot of $20 – $25+ sales of the black and white variant cover.

Word?! 451 Media – Book to watch for this week Exmortis #1

This was pointed out to me by Flunky Rapper in the comment Section. 451 Media fresh off the release of Sunflower #1 and Self Storage #1 have a new #1 series coming out this week and its already sold out at the distributer (Diamond) level and selling in the $10 range. The book is a little different then Sunflower or Self Storage in that it deals with Nazis. Both Sunflower and Self Storage have dropped in selling prices from there prevalent $15 places back to a $7 to $8 sale price range, this will most likely be the same situation with this new book so please keep that in mind.

Exmortis #1 sees its release this week and is a book to be picking up for the quick flip.

Screen shot 2015-11-02 at 4.12.19 PM
Another 451 Media book that sees its release this month is Six #1. This book comes from one of the script writers of the hit HBO drama The Wire, George Pelecanos and is his first comic book series. Like the perviously stated 451 media books, this book already has peak sales of $10 on ebay. With a release date of November 18, this is another book to be looking for and thinking about.

Screen shot 2015-11-02 at 4.12.42 PM
There is a lot of talk about Barnes and Nobel and Hastings Comics both getting all 451 media books in large quantities in there stores – also there are rumblings that they have direct barcode editions that could be worth more money down the line if these books end up having a longer shelf life.
