Week in Review: December 22

Another week with a just two books to be looking for with great speculation value.

Wakfu is a french animated series from 2008 based on a video game. Distributed by Netflix in the US the Wakfu television series has a very large European audience. This week Titan Comics (based in the UK) have released a new series based on the television series. Wakfu #1 has two covers – both of which have sold out at the distributor level. This book is already selling in the $10 to $15 range. This is a book worth picking up!

Self-Storage #3 from 451 Media comics out this week and like previous 451 media releases has already been selling online in the $10 range. This book has great flip potential proving again 451 Media is not a publisher to be sleeping on!

Comic Market Catchup

News came out this week that famed novelist, poet and activist, Margaret Atwood, is working on her first Graphic Novel. It’ll be published in 2016 by Dark Horse Comics, “Angel Catbird“, with artwork by Johnny Christmas. This is worth mentioning for a few reasons. For one, Atwood’s growing fan base will eat this book up as it’s being marketed as her first graphic novel. This could also be the first original story from her with many adaptations of her work in the comic book medium. Why am I talking about this? While this book is being pushed out as Atwood’s first comic book work, it is not. An Anthology kickstarter, “The Secret Lives of Geek Girls“, (launched in July and published just this month) features three pages of an original comic book story drawn and written by Atwood. This book has also been picked up for publication by Dark Horse in 2016. However, the kickstarter edition made available this month can still be purchased from $15 to $20. When the “Angel Catbird” HC comes out, the kickstarter edition of “Secret Lives of Geek Girls” will also have great potential of selling for three times its current sale price.

Secret Lives of Geek Girls is available here for $20 from the Kickstarter Creator.

Another kickstarter book to keep an eye on is Tephlon Funk #1. Coming off a successfully funded kickstarter Project, the first issue of Tephlon Funk #1 was offered through the books crowdfunding as well as the official comic’s website two weeks ago. Limited to 100 copies, the first print kickstarter edition quickly sold out. The second print was made available, limited to 150 copies, and sold out in mere hours. A third print of 200 copies was also made available and followed the same trend selling out in a few hours. Now Gonzo Studios, known for the Afro Samurai anime, are in talks for developing Tephlon Funk into an animated series. With an original price of under $10, the first issue is already selling for $80 on the secondary market! This is a book worth paying attention to!

Week in Review: December 9

Not a whole lot going on this week. It has been a very slow month for comics heating up on the secondary market. Two picks for this week.

Henchgirl #2 from Scout comics comes out this week and is already selling for $10! The first issue of this book quickly sold out and the second issue followed. The first issue has fallen in past sales averaging selling price of around $7 to $8 – double the original cover price! Both the first and second issue will continue to heat up as this on-going series continues.

Also Henchgirl #1 and Henchgirl #2 might not be available on Diamond but they are available at the artist / writers website for $5 each plus shipping.

Another book that is selling for a few dollars above cover and is destined to continue heating up due to television speculation – IDW’s one-shot – Brooklyn Animal Control #1 – a $7.99 cover price comic with peak sales of $10 on ebay. This series is being developed by the USA network. Being an international I’m not sure if that means its going to be a reality show or a scripted show, but this book has easy quick flip potential written all over it.

One last book to be thinking about is 451 medias new series Humbug #1 – a series about Ebenezer Scrooge fighting the parinormal. This weird concept from this very hot new publisher has already sold out at the distrubutor and most online retail comic outlets.

Week in Review: December 3 / Black Mask

Another week, another three books to be on the look out. All three of these books have sold out at Diamond Comics Distributors and all three of these comics are selling for above cover and heating up on ebay!

IMG_0003Another new release from 451 media usually means another week of talking about 451 Media. This week is no exception seeing the release of the second issue of Sunflower – the first book to start heating up from the publisher. Sunflower #2 is no exception from the previous releases from this publisher and is already selling for $10 on ebay. This is a book to be looking for as there is certainly a lot of moving room with this relatively new publisher.

IMG_0009Another new publisher to just hit the scene this week is Overground comics releasing two new series but really only one of note. Graduate #1 – written by Jon Hughes and with art from fashion designer Celia Callie. This book has been fetching double cover on the online market and is starting to creep up. Another book to be keeping an eye out for.

Screen shot 2015-12-03 at 12.28.46 AMThe last book that came out this week that you should be looking for is Z2 Comics’s Carver A Paris Story #1. This book sold out on Diamond a week before release and features a 1:2 variant cover by Paul Pope. This is another book already selling for double cover.

Something else to be thinking about is the Black Mask Mailing List Variant Set. This set will probably eventually be made available to the public – but its currently being offered on the Black Mask website for $50 – featuring all new variant covers by Alexis Zirrit of Space Riders the book includes a Black Mask T-Shirt and new covers for Young Terrorists #1, We Can Never go Home #1, Liberator #1, Ballistic Volume one Trade Paperback and a Godkiller Volume one Trade paperback. Also there is a one in 100 chance of receiving a Black Mask golden ticket, something that still hasn’t been revealed yet. Something to be checking out!
