In a preview clip for this weeks episode of the Walking Dead a clear spoiler presents itself. It is assumed that Father Gabriele is walking next to what appears to be large tiger prints. (CLIP FOUND HERE)
So the speculation is that Morgan is soon to discover the Kingdom which will lead into the introduction of Ezikel, his group, and Shiva (Ezikel’s tiger). First appearing in Walking Dead #108 – This book has been selling on average for $30 in near mint condition, but now is the time to be buying because next week this book WILL start trending upwards.
Other books to be thinking about are this months Marvel / Disney title, The Haunted Mansion #1 (sold out at the distributor). The first print regular cover is selling for $10 and has been trending upwards.
Monstress #1 – The first print of this new Image title has been selling for $20 to $30, while the second print (as pointed out by Comics Heating up) has been selling on average for $50 with peak sales of almost $100! The third print has also been selling above cover averaging $10.
The Following Post contains spoilers about the Batman / Superman film.
The Following Post contains spoilers about the Batman / Superman film. For those living under a rock – Superman vs Batman came out this weekend breaking every box office record of every Comic Book related movie ever. This includes the Dolph Lundgrin Punisher film. The film was used by Warner Brothers, DC and Zack Snyder as a platform to build the DC cinematic universe. The film had a lot of conceptual aspects taken from Frank Miller’s Dark Knight Returns as well as the classic Death and Return of Superman storyline.
While the Frank Miller’s Batman key issues have always fluctuated in demand, the Death of Superman Storyline, Superman #75 (a book that was largly speculated on upon its release but has sold very sporadically in dollar bins for the last 15 years) is selling and heating up. Black Polibagged Superman #75’s have been averaging $15 to $25, while near mint opened Superman #75’s have been selling for $7 to $10. This is a book to be looking for when going through dollar bins – but don’t expect this hype to last very long (the very large print run of this book means it has no probability of growth).
A deleted scene has already hit the Internet. It features Lex Luther and a new character that does not appear in the film, suggesting its future in the DC film universe. The scene can be seen here. It was pointed out by John Brown of CBSI (his ebay store is here and he has some awesome Moderns for sale!) that this character is Steppenwolf, the fictional New God created by Jack Kirby for DC. His first appearance has virtually disappared from the online comic marketplace. However, this book can still be found in the wild. The book to be looking for is New Gods #7 from 1972. This book currently sells for $50 to $70 in near mint condition and will rise once more people see the just released, deleted scene.
ALSO, his first appearance in the NEW 52 is Justice League #6 (another book not to be overlooked).
Things to look forward to this week: DC Rebirth, What happened at Wondercon, Week in Review Post, and a post about DC / NBC’s Powerless.
WARNING: The next post might contain some minor spoilers for the Season Two of Daredevil on Netflix. I was able to finish watching the new season of Daredevil this weekend and was able to find two books that seem to be starting to heat up. The new season was great adding some of the great iconic Frank Miller Daredevil concepts.
The first book that you should be looking for comes from The Punisher Volume 4 #3 from 2000. This book features a scene brought to life and used as the source material for the introduction of the Punisher to Daredevil. To avoid spoilers that scene can be seen here.
This book sold for $4 to $7 on ebay two weeks ago and can be found in many dollar bins at your local comic book convention. Recently, however, this book has been selling upwards of $25 in near mint condition. Since this scene can only be made once, this book is sure to lose steam. Although, there is still time to make money with this book. When this book was released it came sealed with a Marvel Knight Promotional comic book – most copies were opened which resulted in unopened copies demanding a premium on the secondary market.
The second book you should be looking for is the first appearance of the Hand. The Hand is the mythical Marvel Universe gang of mercenaries created by Frank Miller in Daredevil #174.
The storyline of the second season of Daredevil features heavy appearances from the Hand organization. The Hand isn’t going anywhere as this group continues to play an integral part in Daredevil story-lines both classic and new. The first appearance of “The Hand” Daredevil #174 currently sells on average for $25 to $30 in near mint condition. Now is the time to be buying this issue as it is very undervalued (more people will realize this once they finish watching the entire new season).
As promised here are two books to be looking for that came out this week:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #56 – Sold out at Diamond Comics distrubutor last week. IDW has already solicited a second print for this issue. Like all IDW Turtles there is a subscription variant and a 1:10 Variant cover, releasing three covers tomorrow. This book features the first appearance of Leatherhead – a new mutant in the TMNT universe. The length he’ll stick around for is questionable. The likelihood of the regular cover selling for $10 by next week is not likely. The 1:10 Variant cover is the cover to be throwing your money into.
As reported by Trey over at CBSI / Comic Book Invest , in this weeks issue of Batman (Batman #50), Duke Thomas is offered to become the new Robin. Subsequently, this has resulted in Duke Thomas’s first appearance, Batman #21 (new 52) to start to heat up. This book which sold for less than $10 last week is currently trending at $20 and is moving upwards – with the lower print second print and the 1:100 and convention variant cover also selling for a considerable amount of money. This is a book to be looking for at your local comic book store.
One more things to take note of are the speculation value of the first appearance of Gwenom – Guardians of the Unknown #1 Guillory Variant – which is currently selling for $40. Up from the $20 sales of yesterday and the $5 sales of last week. Will this book start to drop in value before the series comes out or continue to climb? Time can only tell. Not a book I’d be spending the big bucks on but a book I’d be looking for in the wild.
At last weekend’s C2E2 Robbi Rodriguez known for his work and co-creation of Spider-Gwen announced he was leaving comics. It was a weird announcement and why it is newsworthy I’m not sure (there are tons of creators that quit the industry without a peep being made so its weird but also very comical) – however there was one piece of information within this recent announcement.
Rodriguez stated he was leaving comics after the Gwenom story arc- Gwen Stacy possessed as Venom – a book that hasn’t been solicited but is expected to drop sometime around the end of the year. Why is this important and why am I not talking about the announced Iron-Jane -Mary Jane/ Iron Spider-Man comic book that was just announced at C2E2? Gwenom has already appeared in the Marvel universe and is sure to start heating up the back issue bins.
Guardians of Knowhere #1 Gwenom Alternate Variant Cover. This features the first appearance of Gwenom (on cover) and is selling out on ebay at $10. Listings online are starting to dry up with the over-priced copies remaining. This is a book to be looking for with great spec value as more news comes out about the series.
*WARNING* This post is going to be filled with spoilers – mostly pertaining to the AMC Walking Dead television series. If you care about the plot and content of the AMC Walking Dead TV Show, this post might not be for you. Be sure to have kept up to date before continuing reading.
The long awaited question walking dead fans have been asking has been answered. When will Jesus appear on the television series? Last weeks episode saw the first appearance of Jesus into the AMC continuity. Shooting up the price of his first appearance in comics considerably. Jesus (Paul Monroe) first appearance was Walking Dead #92, which sold for just under $50 in January. Now with the television appearance this book has shot up to $80 to $90 and is still increasing. This is a book to be holding on to.
Another book that has suddenly started to see interest is Supergirl #16 with sales around $10 in near mint condition and above cover in varying lower conditions. Supergirl #16 is the first Flash / Supergirl cross-over issue in the New 52 and with CW moving forward and releasing production stills from the filming of a Flash / Supergirl cross-over episode – fans have been clambering over this issue. Sure to see an increase once the episode premieres.
Watch-out for a new post in a few days “Two books to grab from the dollar bin”
Before I start this week in review – do not buy copies of the new Boom series Mighty Morphing Power Rangers #1 for speculation purposes. Stores were caught off guard with the success of issue #0 – and all covers, including the hard to find variants, have fallen in price, which was to be expected. All these books will eventually cool off with the big speculative winner being the true first appearance in comic form. Discussed here.
Its been a very slow last few weeks but here are two titles to be looking for.
Last week saw the release of the first Mad Magazine Blank Sketch Variant with Mad Magazine issue 538. Mad Magazine is published (and run) through DC comics – so its no surprise they would eventually pick up on the sketch variant gimmick. While there are a lot of sold copies on ebay at cover price – there are a hand full of sold copies above or around the $10 price point – with all cover price buy it nows auctions drying up. This book appears to be on the move and is sure to be on many want lists in a few weeks when the summer of comic con starts.
Another book that has steadily been selling for $10 is Secret Warriors #2. Published in 2009 – this book features the first appearance of Hive – recently revealed on Agents of Shield – This book is straight out of the dollar bin and is most likely in your local comic book stores back issue bin. This is a book to be looking for with great quick flip potential.
Another title that has jumped the shark because of hollywood speculation is the original Old Man Logan series. With the success of the Deadpool film, Fox recently announced the new Wolverine film, Wolverine 3, will be a R Rated adaptation of the much loved and critically acclaimed Old Man Logan series. Pushing the first print of the first book of the series, Wolverine #66, in to the $35 to $50 range. Comics Invest did a great article on all the print runs and which ones to look for – but in short, in the current comic climate, Wolverine #66 is a great book to be buying and holding on to.
