DC Rebirth

A lot of crazy stuff happening this week so lets get right to it.

This week Henchgirl has been on fire – with the Scout Comics issue #1 selling for $70 to $90 online. Its not even the first appearance of Henchgirl and is just old material reprinted! Its crazy!

The big news though (as covered by Bleedingcool and CHU) is the leaking of this week’s issue of Rebirth #1, the starting of DC’s new universe (or whatever they’re going for at the moment). Someone (apparently in the press) received a copy and started revealing spoilers of the book on Reddit. This person has since been banned on Reddit, however, it is a very genuine post.

So what did we learn? Wally West is back but that has been hinted at for months. The big news is the Watchmen are now members of the DCU. What’s more is that Dr. Manhattan created the DC Universe. That finger on the cover of Rebirth #1? That’s a swipe at Michelangelo’s The Creation of Adam with Dr. Manhattan. This also means that Alan Moore created the DC Universe.

Speculation wise: Watchmen #1‘s are selling like no tomorrow on ebay but there are a few other books to be looking for.

Watchmen #12 – In this book Dr. Manhattan makes a very poignant exit scene. Suggesting an early appearance of the NEW DC Universe.

Before Watchmen: Dr. Manhattan #4 – Dr. Manhattan creates his first universe. This book is already selling for $30 to $35 – with no combo-pack variants available for sale online since the news. This book seems to have great quick flip potential as it’s currently being pinned as the origin of the DC Rebirth Universe.

The last book that you should be looking for which is already selling for big bucks (five confirmed sales of CGC 9.8 copies selling above $400 – when GPA is $300) is DC Spotlight #1. This is the first appearance of both Frank Miller’s Dark Night AND the Watchmen. Raw copies have been selling for $40 to $80 in ranging conditions. This book has great potential for growth as Watchmen begins to be built into the DCU.

Week in Review May 16

I first posted about this on Google+ (you should follow me) but Comicbookheatingup picked up on it and I didn’t feel the need to repost the information again. However, The Fix #1 Second Print came out last week and sold out instantaneously. Some stores reported allocations. The Fix, published by Image, is a Nick Spencer title and first prints have already been selling above cover hitting up to $8 USD online. The Second print is now selling for $15 to $20 – a similar situation to both Rat Queens and Monstress where the second and third print runs are lower then the first and in demand based on their short supply. If Nick Spencer doesn’t mess this title up like he has messed up countless others, this book could have legs. (See Bedlam, or the delay issue with Morning Glories.)

A third Print has already been ordered by the publisher and has already sold on ebay for a few dollars above cover. This is a book to be preordering at your LCS!

A book that comes out this week and has already had amazing sales in presale online is the Jock American Alien #7 1:25 Variant cover. This book has already sold for $30 to $50 online and is moving up! This is a book to be looking for this week with great quick flip potential!

Comic Round-Up

Here are some books you should be looking for…

latest-2

It seems that the way the current Walking Dead storyline is going, Alpha is a character we’re going to be hearing about a lot. Alpha’s first appearance has also started to heat up in the past two or three months – Walking Dead #132 (First Cameo appearance) has been selling for $15 to $20 online and seems to be trending upwards.

Some more recent books that are heating up include the new Z2 Comics title Legend. With the first issue, Legend #1, selling for double cover. Bleedingcool talked about this book a few weeks ago when it initially sold out at the distributor but the three sales on ebay in the past few days vary from $6 to $10.

Another book first discussed on Bleedingcool is Boom Studios Joyride #1. This book has been selling well online, however, with three 50/50 ratio covers released it seems that cover A is the only book heating up. With multiple sales averaging $7 to $10 and one sale of all three covers at $30, this is another book to be looking for.

Last book I’m going to talk about came out last week from Image Comics. From writer / artist/film director Karre Andrews we see the release of Renato Jones the 1%. Already going into a second printing the first print Renato Jones #1 has been selling for $6 to $10 and is still trending upwards.

Hollywood Daze: New Mutants

This week Josh Boon, director of the X-Men spinoff film, The New Mutants, started the speculation train on his film the New Mutants through his social media account – releasing what is assumed to be the film’s New Mutant Team line up.

Screen shot 2016-05-05 at 12.26.00 AM

Its features Mirage, Magik, Wolfsbane, Sunspot, and Cannonball. All of these characters first appear in the Marvel Graphic Novel, The New Mutants (first discussed here) – except for Magik. Magik’s first appearance has started skyrocketing since this news broke, however, it can still be found in the wild for relatively reasonable prices. Magik or Illyana Rasputin first appears in Giant-Size X-Men #1 and doesn’t become Magik until 1984’s The New Mutants #14. This book has been selling for $10 to $25 online.

Another book that has been heating up due to the New Mutants news is the first appearance of Warlock – another character confirmed to appear in the New Mutants film by director Josh Boon’s social media account.Warlock first appears in New Mutants #18 and like the first appearance of Magik these copies are selling high online. This book can still be found for reasonable prices in the wild.

Also this week, news broke that Grant Morrison’s Klaus was being turned into a feature length film – so dig those issue #1’s out because the books you couldn’t sell last week at cover are now flying off ebay. This book was hot upon release and has cooled down quite a bit – however this book seems to be trending upwards again.

Week in Review: May 4

To start off this post, please check out the newly launched, newly designed, RJ comics and Toys website. Offering 30% off Previews pre-orders as well as offering a very extensive back issue selection

This week has one book you should be looking for and two variants that you should be thinking about picking up.

Batman / Superman #32 comes out this week and is already sold out at Diamond and is selling for $10 on ebay. First reported by Larry’s Comics and the guys at CBSI,  Batman/Superman #32 features the first appearance of Kenji Kong. Kenji Kong is the new Superman, he’s Chinese and he is based in China and is launched through the DC Rebirth event first the first issue released on July 13. This is a book to be looking for and holding onto as it has long term holding value.

This week sees two honorable mention variants that have been heating up online. There’s the release of a new Punisher series from Marvel. The 1:25 ratio Alex Maleev Punisher #1 variant has been selling for $35 to $40. The other variant to look for is Gwenpool #0 1:25 variant. This book has been selling for $30 to $60 the past three weeks in pre-sale, however, many stores are reporting spine and binary issues due to the printing process with these books making near mint plus difficult to obtain. This book should have legs in the short term.
