Week In Review October 17

This week there are two news releases you should be looking for.

This week sees the release of the Scout Comics title, The Source. The first issue is sold out at the retailer level and has been selling for $10+ online. This book has a 1 in 20 Glow in the Dark variant cover as well as a first appearance Ashcan – both the 1:20 Variant and the Ashcan variant are still available on the Scout Comics website for well under what they’ve been selling for on ebay. The main hesitation I have of ordering off the Scout comics website is the uncertainty that these books will maintain there current value.

Another book that has been selling well is the new Source Points Comics title, Ogre #1. Ogre #1 has been selling for $10 to $12 on ebay.

A few media related announcements came out this week and here are the books you should be looking for.

This week it was announced that the villain in the upcoming Jared Leto Morbius film would be Loxias Crown. Several websites are reporting and making the connection to the Marvel Crown character, while it hasn’t been confirmed that Loxias Crown is the Spider-man villain with the former alias of Crown its very possible. Crown first appeared in Peter Parker Spider-Man #76. Crown later becomes known as Hunger in the Marvel universe. As a result of this news this book has been getting a lot of attention.

Another two books that have started to see a climb in value are Captain Marvel Volume 5 #16 and Captain Marvel #17. These two books features the first appearance and the first full appearance of Phyla-vell. Phyla-vell has been confirmed to be a new team member in the Donny Cates written Guardians of the Galaxy comic which has caused her first appearance to start to take off.

Captain Marvel’s Starforce

Thanks Jack Demayo for pointing this out.

This week Entertainment Weekly released promotional images from the upcoming Captain Marvel movie. The DC.Marvel.Jpg instagram account did a really good job of breaking down which characters appear in these images.

Right now we have four confirmed members of Captain Marvel’s Star force. The first appearance of Star Force is Avengers #346 and we first spoke about it here. This book has been selling online for $20 to $30.

Appearing in the Star Force team are,

Korath – This character first appeared in the Guardians of the Galaxy film. His first appearance is Quaser #32 from 1992.
Att-Lass – AKA Captain Atlas or Titanium Man. This character first appeared in Quasar #9 published in 1990.
Bron Char – This Kree soldier character first appears in 1998’s Captain America Volume 3 #8.
Minn-Erva – Doctor Minerva. This character was confirmed to appear in the film a few months ago, but her first appearance is Captain Marvel #50 from 1977.

There are other characters in Star Force but there has been no firm confirmation that those characters will appear in the Captain Marvel film.

Another book that has started to pick up steam because of a character being confirmed for Captain Marvel is Hulk #418 and Hulk #419. These books feature the first appearance and the first full appearance of Skrull commander Talos.

Captain Marvel’s Star Force (Week in Review September 12)

This week sees the release of Venom First Host #3. If you havn’t been following the story, Venom gave Eddie Brock his infant symbiote child to raise for safe keeping. In this issue, Venom’s child fuses with Eddie Brock. This has caused a flood of sales on the first appearance of Venom’s infant symbiote. While this book hasn’t been selling above cover it is a good book to be picking up and holding on to. The first appearance and origin of Venom’s infant symbiote is Venom #165 from April of 2018. This book has two covers.

A book that comes out this week and has been selling well online is Redhood and the Outlaws #26 cover B. Online, This book has been selling for double to triple cover.

v3

Last week Entertainment Weekly released some production images from the Captain Marvel movie. This week a “scene description” was leaked from the Captain Marvel movie set in California. This leak showed that the Starforce Team would have a big role in the Captain Marvel film. The first appearance of the Starforce team is Avengers #346. Some people are speculating on the first appearances of the various members of Starforce, I will expand on this in a later post.

Hollywood Daze: Captain Marvel

The Captain Marvel movie announcement is one of the greatest things to happen to comic book movies since Steel’s little brother made a sex tape with Kim Kardashian (expect more irrelevant Ray J Steel Movie jokes)

300px-Captain_Marvel_Adventures_Vol_1_14

Captain Marvel comes out of the Golden Age and had versions written up by both DC comics and Marvel, creating the confusing Shazam / Captain Marvel Complex. Well Marvel has tried to squash all confusion by announcing the film version of Captain Marvel will be the all new 2014 Marvel Now female Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers. I am still confused. Good thing this film comes out in 2018 – a year before the DC Shazam film staring the Rock. How are both of these movies, with such similar characters going to fair at an already diminished the box office?

Two books to look for coming out of the Captain Marvel news are,
Captain Marvel Volume 7 #1 – *THANKS JAMAL AND SIMON FOR CORRECTING ME!! 🙂
– Carol Danvers becomes Captain Marvel
