With Spider-man: Homecoming being released early next month there has been a lot of news coming out about the Sony Spider-Man universe. Early this week we found out that the Venom and Black and Silver (The Black Cat and Silver Sable Movie) would take place in the Spider-Man Homecoming universe. The new Spider-Man film is set up to be a trilogy so it is assumed all of these characters will eventually meet on screen.
Today The Hollywood Reporter announced that Carnage would appear in the Venom film. Carnage’s first full appearance (and first cover) has seen a lot of love today – there were three CGC 9.8 sales on ebay today for $375 – $400. Amazing Spider-Man #361 has been a key book sought after by collectors for some time.
However if you plan to spec on this character, Amazing Spider-Man #360 is the book you should be looking for. This book is currently very undervalued and features the first cameo appearance of Carnage. This book currently sells for $10 to $15 in Near Mint Condition.
Another book that should see an increase and is already pretty sought after, is Maximum Carnage #1 the Marvel / Acclaim promotional one-shot for the Maximum Carnage artridge video game from 1994. There is also the very limited QVC Maximum Carnage Box Set – limited to 5,000 for SNES and 5000 for the Genesis system. This box set came with the Cartridge game, Marvel pins and a Limited Edition leather bound HC that reprinted The Amazing Spider-Man #’s 344, 345, and 359 to 363.
There is really only one book to be looking for this week, Spawn Directors Cut 1 Per Store Retailer Appreciation Variant. This book features the Spawn #227 cover with a new coloring and with silver foil logos. This book was sent to every diamond account retailer making the print run 2 to 3 thousand. This book is currently selling for $80 to $100, I would expect the price to drop as more copies come to market, however, with the large Spawn fan base this could be a long term collectors item.
The Unquotable Trump is an ashcan comic book featuring classic comic covers redone featuring Donald Trump and various quotes from speeches he’s made. Drawn and Quarterly picked up the comic and is publishing an over-sized treasury edition in November. In the past week on ebay this ashcan has sold from $15 to $30. You can still buy copies of this ashcan for $4 from this link.
It was announced this week that Sony was making a live action movie about He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. This is sure to bring more attention to DC Comics Presents #47 – the first appearance of He-Man in comics.
Joe Benitez creator of Lady Mechanika took to facebook this week to announce his Lady Mechanika creator owned series had been optioned for a television series. Lady Mechanika has been a popular indie series upon release, since this news broke there has been a lot of interest in the series first issue Lady Mechanika #0 and its various printings and variants. Something that has been largely ignored is that Lady Mechanika first appeared in a pin-up piece by Joe Benitez in Worlds of Aspen FCBD 2010. This book could see a lot of interest if the television series ever comes to fruition.
It was also confirmed this week that Adam Warlock would be appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy 2.
FX announced yesterday that they ordered a Pilot episode for a comic book project they were working on; Legion, and announced they were also developing a project related to the Helfire Club. This is great news for speculators as Legion is a characters whose first appearance regularly appears in dollar and three dollar bins – under $10 bins in high grade. Legion (David Haller) is the son of Charles Xavier – first appearing briefly in New Mutants #25 with a full origin in New Mutants #26. New Mutants #26 is the book to be looking for however New Mutants #25 is also a winner.
Both of these books regularly sold for under $4 on ebay but since yesterday have been peaking up to $30 (for Near Mint New Mutants #25). These two books are ones to look for.
There is also word out that the Hellfire Club is being developed by the same studio has a projected television series. It is unclear what incarnation will be used but X-Men #129 is a sure beat at this point.
Another book to be looking for at your local comic book stores that came out this week is Black Mask’s Clandestino #1 – already selling for double cover in the $8 to $10 range – this could be another big Black Mask title and not one to sleep on.
After a few small hick-ups with the behind the scenes production, news came out this week that Skybounds Clone has moved to Universal Studios and is moving forward as a Live-Action TV-series. Clone was first optioned in 2013, but since then has seen a steady decrease in value. This is sure to change with more positive news coming out about the series. Clone #1 has two covers on release however it is the more recent very rare and limited Black and White SDCC Skybound collectors box edition that you should be looking for. There are 250 to 500 copies of this book floating around, with average sale prices of $20 and a considerably lower print run then the first print issue, this is the Clone book to be looking for.
Thursday of this week saw the release of NYCC Funko Pop Exclusives at Hot Topic. Still available in very limited quantities at select stores, who are rumoured to receive more on friday – these pops retail for $14.99 and $20 for the larger Pops. The one to look for is the Game of Thrones Iron Throne – this Funko is designed for other Funko Pops to sit on and should have long term holding value. The other POPS are also selling for twice what they are being offered for at Hot Topic. (Two of the items are available on the Hot Topic website, the Throne is sold out online – Here and Here)
Another book to look for is Titan Comics Blood Thirsty #1. Titan Comics can be hit or miss – this book is still available on the Titan Comics website and has been selling for $8 to $10. Great Quick Flip potential, not a book to be holding on to as almost all Titan comics lose value – one can just look at the Tank Girl prices upon release and sell out and compare them to the prices now, most titan comics drop in value.
Last week news came out about the casting of Misty Knight, Luke Cage’s Love interest, for the new Netflix Iron Fist TV-Show. Very soon after that Bleeding cool ran an article called speculation corner spotlighting Marvel Premiere #20. What Bleedincool neglected to “spotlight” was that Misty Knight doesn’t appear in Marvel Premiere #20, she is just brought up as an idea, which shouldn’t even qualify as a cameo appearance.
Misty Knight does appear, in full, in Marvel Premiere #21. While all online copies have pretty much been scooped up or marked up, this book is still very findable in the wild for under $20, while selling in the $40 to $60 range. Both of these books have potential, however, Marvel Premiere #21 will be the clear winner.

Max Max Fury Road Furiosa #1 is a one-shot that has sold out at Diamond days before it was to be released ( on June 17). This book is already selling for $10 in ebay presale and still has some room for growth. The previous Max Max Fury Road #1 sold for up to $30, it currently sells for around $15 to $18 which is still a jump from its $5.99 cover price however these arn’t books to be sitting on as they seem to have a small sales window of opportunity. Unlike the previous Max Max book, Furiosa #1 has a blank variant cover – based on the current popularity of Max Max this book has a lot of potential.
Another book that goes on sale on June 17 that has already sold out at Diamond is Minions #1 from Titan publishing. Still riding on the five year success of the 2010 Despicable Me film and its tie-in / sequel films, Minions #1 is already preselling for $10 on ebay! If the recently released limited edition Minion Tic Tacs are any sign of heat, retailing for $1.50 and selling for $10 on ebay – The Minions have a huge following and this book will have a strong following for some time.
