WORD: Legion TV Show

FX announced yesterday that they ordered a Pilot episode for a comic book project they were working on; Legion, and announced they were also developing a project related to the Helfire Club. This is great news for speculators as Legion is a characters whose first appearance regularly appears in dollar and three dollar bins – under $10 bins in high grade. Legion (David Haller) is the son of Charles Xavier – first appearing briefly in New Mutants #25 with a full origin in New Mutants #26. New Mutants #26 is the book to be looking for however New Mutants #25 is also a winner.

Both of these books regularly sold for under $4 on ebay but since yesterday have been peaking up to $30 (for Near Mint New Mutants #25). These two books are ones to look for.

There is also word out that the Hellfire Club is being developed by the same studio has a projected television series. It is unclear what incarnation will be used but X-Men #129 is a sure beat at this point.

Another book to be looking for at your local comic book stores that came out this week is Black Mask’s Clandestino #1 – already selling for double cover in the $8 to $10 range – this  could be another big Black Mask title and not one to sleep on.

The Bleeding Cool Effect: Misty Knight

Screen shot 2015-04-08 at 1.35.34 AM

Last week news came out about the casting of Misty Knight, Luke Cage’s Love interest, for the new Netflix Iron Fist TV-Show. Very soon after that Bleeding cool ran an article called speculation corner spotlighting Marvel Premiere #20. What Bleedincool neglected to “spotlight” was that Misty Knight doesn’t appear in Marvel Premiere #20, she is just brought up as an idea, which shouldn’t even qualify as a cameo appearance.

Misty Knight does appear, in full, in Marvel Premiere #21. While all online copies have pretty much been scooped up or marked up, this book is still very findable in the wild for under $20, while selling in the $40 to $60 range. Both of these books have potential, however, Marvel Premiere #21 will be the clear winner.

Week in Review August 26

hitlistNot a lot going on this week, as per usual we’ve hit a summer slump in comic book speculation so I’m going to give you three points and do a Hollywood round-up post in a few days.

This week sees the release of Boom Studio’s Over the Garden Wall series, with the creators of the television series working on the actual comic. You can still buy the book for cover-price at almost all online retailers. There is also a one-shot that is very hard to find and had a low print run, it usually sells in the $30 range. Something I only found out this week was that Over The Garden Wall appeared in a comic book before! The sought after one-shot not only had a preview in Adventure Time #33 but it also had art pin-ups that were never reprinted in the Over the Garden Wall series. With too many covers to keep track of, this is a book to be looking for.

Something to Buy Now Online – Kanye West Variants

$_57 Hip Hop Family Tree #1 – This book (I spoke about it here) has sold out at diamond and first prints are selling above cover price. There are four variant covers all featuring a different rap star. Right now the Fantagraphics website still has the first print Cover A and the Kanye West website exclusive variant cover for cover price. Considering all the sales on ebay of the Kanye West cover are in the $10 to $15 range AND there is television optioning happening behind the scenes, this is a no-brainer.

Something to Think about: Blade

Screen shot 2015-08-28 at 12.45.09 AM Right now Marvel there is a lot of rumour talk surrounding Marvel’s new Blade series. Marvel is launching a new Blade comic series with a female Blade – bringing a female Blade into the marvel universe. This is in-line with the recent interviews that have come out with Wesley Snipes talking about coming back to the character, suggesting an older Blade. Short term, I’m not sure if there has been a female Blade before – long term, Tomb of Dracula #10, the first appearance of Blade if very undervalued at the moment. How long will that last?

Weird Catchup: Marvel Battleworld

Screen shot 2015-03-30 at 3.40.18 PM

I’m not really following Marvel’s current storylines. I was really into Daredevil until Shadowland ended. Never could get back into the Marvel U after they kept re-writing it, so excuse me for being slow on this one.
This was first pointed out by the homies at The Dakoit’s Comic Book Speculation.

Marvel has brought back Marvel Zombies to the Marvel Universe. This time they’ve brought back an old character that is only now getting noterity.

Elsa Bloodstone is the daughter of a Ulysses Bloodstone – a character who had a gem of power that let him live forever, he eventually became a mercenary who mainly hunts monsters – and Yes it is the same Bloodstone as Captain America Bloodstone First appearance of Crossbones. Eventually his daughter is given fragments of the stone. Right now the first appearance of Elsa Bloodstone – the new monster hunter in the Marvel Universe is gaining steam – two weeks ago this book sold for under $3 online, today it sells for upwards of $15+. This book is very much a dollar book but with Marvel’s new Female character focus, this book has a lot of potential down the road.

Bloodstone #1 (2001)

Another book that could become relevant based on how Marvel uses Elsa is the first appearances of Ulysses Bloodstone, her father.

Marvel Presents #1 Bloodstone (1975) – First appearance of Ulysses Bloodstone

This Weeks Prospects, May 11, 2014

You know who’s a lot like Darkseid but more hardcore? Mangul. Really? Well I don’t know, but for some reason this book seems to be trending upwards. (not unlike DC Comics Presents #27 – First appearance of the New Teen Titans, which seems to keep going up!) – sure it might only have peak sales around $10 or $20, but this use to be a dollar book!

DC Presents #27 – First appearance of Mangul

IZombie Update – Last Update February 18

It seems that this week the CW has made more confirmation on its IZombie tv-series. Which has brought the price of the #1 (A debut dollar issue) to a nice $25. While the Darwyn Cooke Variant sells for $75+.
Now is the time to sell.

– Nailbiter #1 is now a $5 book. It might go up, but its levelled at $5 at the current time.
– Southern Bastards is a steady $9.
– Haunted #1 $10
– Pax Ramana #1 in strict Near Mint – seems to be getting $60 – $80
– Ebay took down my Tijuana Bibles listing after selling two of them – I’m not sure why. They said “adult content, list it in proper category”. I’m going to look into this and update, but this is just becoming a harder to get book.

Word?! Livewire

I really can’t give you a reason for this happening.

Livewire’s first appearance is heating up. (keep in mind the picture above shows a VF+ copy at auction at $27 with four days to go)
Who’s Livewire? Exactly.
This has been rumoured for some time that this book was going up in value, but again, there really isn’t a reason for it.
Here are two books you should be looking for

Superman Adventures #5 – First appearance of Livewire

Screen shot 2014-05-08 at 12.13.25 AM

Action Comics #835 – First NEW appearance (and origin) of Livewire

Screen shot 2014-05-08 at 12.15.31 AM
In a world where Harley Quinn’s first appearance is $200+ and can get $700+ in CGC 9.8, this book has potential.

Nailbiter #1 comes out this week. The regular cover seems to have some sporadic sales of $6 – $14. Plus its sold out at Diamond, Plus its a good read, Plus Image is issuing a second print.

Other stuff

ASM #1 Volume 3 Follow up

Here are the going rates for ASM #1 Volume 3 retailer variants. (these do not include store or other “exclusive” variants)

If you can grab these for half of what they sell for, its a good buy, anything more than that wouldn’t be worth your time.
These prices are only going to go down.

And since Alex Ross isn’t doing a signing anytime soon, it doesn’t make sense to hold to to these books.

Alex Ross 1:300 – $380

Alex Ross 1:75 – $50

Martin 1:75  – $35

Opena 1:75 – $35

Mcguiness – $50

– Livewire

– Silk

– Spider-man 2099 (a didn’t we already go over this? post and it will be revised)

-Wormwood #0 vs Wormwood #1
