Today news came out from the Hollywood reporter that Lionsgate entertainment had signed on to turn the image series Analog into a motion picture. Analog is an on-going series from Image Comics that currently has two issues. Analog #1 has two covers and a C2E2 convention variant cover.
This week sees the release of a Joshua Middleton cover that has already had peak presales of above $40. Batgirl #23 Cover B is the book to buy this week. It is currently selling for $22. As more copies hit the market the price will go down but I wouldn’t be surprised if this continued to be a $10+ book.
This week also sees the release of Champions #20. While it has not been selling above cover, this book has been receiving some heat as it features the first full appearance of Snowguard.
It was announced that Ann Weying would be appearing in the upcoming Venom film. In The Marvel Universe, Ann Weying becomes a female venom, She-Venom, this has led to the book she first appears in as She-Venom to sell for very high prices. Ann Weying first appears in Amazing Spider-Man #375 and becomes She-Venom in the Venom: Sinner Takes All series. She first becomes She-Venom in Venom:Sinner Takes All #2 and appears on the cover of Venom: Sinner takes all #3. While ASM #375 hasn’t really been selling (this book has a very high print run), Venom: Sinner Takes All #3 has been selling for up to $100 in raw near mint condition online. While Venom: Sinner Takes All #3 has been a sought after book in high grade for the last few years, this week this news has blown this book up. Two things to think about – Will the real first appearance of She-Venom start to go up? Has She-Venom been confirmed for the movie?
Another announcement that started as a rumor last week but has since been confirmed is the Umbrella Academy TV-Show announcement. The Hollywood Reporter came out with the news this week that Netflix ordered a 10 episode series for Gerard Way’s Umbrella Academy. Umbrella Academy first appears in the Dark Horse 2007 FCBD book. While this book hasn’t been getting a lot of attention the ratio variants for Umbrella Academy #1 have been (as well as the Volume 2 RRP). Another thing to keep note of is that the Gerad Way signed and graded copies will see a stronger demand down the road – Gerad Way has always been a hard to acquire signature, only attending a handful of conventions.
Today it was announced by CW that Odette Annable was cast to play Reign in the third season of the Supergirl TV series. Reign is described as a “worldkiller” like Doomsday and the press releases suggest Reign will be a big part of the third season of Supergirl.
Who is Reign? Reign is a character that was first introduced in the New 52 Supergirl series. (The 6th Supergirl series, published in 2011). The first appearance is readily available in the wild and was widely available online until this information was made public – now all regular priced near mint copies have vanished from most online comic marketplaces. Reign’s first appearance is Supergirl #5. This is a book you should be looking for and holding onto.
This week saw the release of Atoll #1 – the second comic book about a predator shark in the last few weeks. (the other being White #1 from Devils Due). Atoll is written by Tim Daniel of Enormous and has sold out on diamond and almost all online retailers. Selling on ebay for $20 to $25. Atoll is published by Creative Mind Energy and could be at your local comic book store.
Another book that came out this week that you should be looking for is the high ratio variant of the new Transformers comic book Optimus Prime #1. The Optimus Prime #1 1:50 Paul Pope cover selling for $60 to $70. This is a book to be watching as transformers books are notorious for low print runs and have a large niche collecting market. This book should have long holding value.
The big comic book news that came out this week was that the Harley Quinn Suicide Squad spin-off film produced by and starring Margot Robbie would be titled Gotham City Sirens and featuring both Poison Ivy and Catwoman as Harley Quinn love interests.
The book Gotham City Sirens has exploded on ebay – raw copies of Gotham City Sirens #1 have sold for $50 to $90 with CGC 9.8 graded copies going for $190 to 250, with the J.G. Jones Variant $900 or best offer Buy it Now Auction selling just after the news broke – with the current lowest price copy sitting at $675. This is book that has always been pricey in comparison to other modern books however it can still be found in the wild for under ebay completed sale prices!
First off is the hot off the presses Latino Review rumours that the Spider-Man “Iron Spider” suit would be an important part of the Captain America Civil War film plot line, with the film already releasing posters featuring main marvel characters facing off it wouldn’t be that big of a surprise for Spider-Man to have an important role in the film. So the book to look for is the first appearance of the Iron Spider. Amazing Spider-Man #529 – first appearance of the Iron Spider Suit.
Fox has announced the continuation of the X-Files franchise with the new season starting in January 2016. This with the relaunch of the comic book series with IDW has brought an increased interest back to the original Topps Comics X-Files series. The X-Files #1 first print Topps publication has been selling for upwards of $30 to $50. For a book that constantly sold for $10 to $20 in high grade condition this is great news. There are still findable copies in the wild for cover. This book has a lot of potential to explode come the series relaunch in January.
There has been a lot of casting news involving the CW and Agents of Shield TV-Shows. One more recent piece of news is the casting of the character Lash from the marvel universe into Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Lash is a relativly newly developed character first being introduced in Inhuman #1 from 2014. Since this is a Marvel Now title with huge print runs the variants are the books to look for.
Another character meeting its TV-premier is Jesse Quick, being introduced in the Flash TV-Series new season. Jesse Quick previously Jesse Chambers first appears as Jesse Quick in Justice Society of America #1 – however her first appearance that has been largly ignored as Jesse Chambers the concept behind the character is Justice League Europe #34 – both of these books are ones to look for.
