Since the first season of the Defenders hit Netflix there has been a lot of buzz about what comes next in the Marvel TV universe. Based on media reports, it seems that production is ready to roll out for the third season of Netflix’s Daredevil. In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Charlie Cox stated the third season would be based on the Daredevil Born Again story line, which takes place in Daredevil #227 to 233.
These books should see an increase in interest in the coming months, however the news to take note of came out of the casting room and was reported by TheHashtagshow.com. They reported that a casting call went out with this description
“[STEVE]28-35, 5’9-6’1, Open ethnicity. An athletic but socially awkward FBI Agent, needs structure and rules to suppress the darkness inside himself. Athletic with medium build, responsible and resourceful, hair trigger temper. SERIES REGULAR“
A few websites have reported that this new character is Stanley Cooper, also known as the Sin-Eater. In the last month this book has gone from a book that sold for a couple of dollars online to selling for $20 to $25 in high grade condition. That book is Spectacular Spider-Man #107. There has been no real confirmation that the character being cast as Steve is actually the sin eater, but book does seem to be selling.
WARNING: The next post might contain some minor spoilers for the Season Two of Daredevil on Netflix. I was able to finish watching the new season of Daredevil this weekend and was able to find two books that seem to be starting to heat up. The new season was great adding some of the great iconic Frank Miller Daredevil concepts.
The first book that you should be looking for comes from The Punisher Volume 4 #3 from 2000. This book features a scene brought to life and used as the source material for the introduction of the Punisher to Daredevil. To avoid spoilers that scene can be seen here.
This book sold for $4 to $7 on ebay two weeks ago and can be found in many dollar bins at your local comic book convention. Recently, however, this book has been selling upwards of $25 in near mint condition. Since this scene can only be made once, this book is sure to lose steam. Although, there is still time to make money with this book. When this book was released it came sealed with a Marvel Knight Promotional comic book – most copies were opened which resulted in unopened copies demanding a premium on the secondary market.
The second book you should be looking for is the first appearance of the Hand. The Hand is the mythical Marvel Universe gang of mercenaries created by Frank Miller in Daredevil #174.
The storyline of the second season of Daredevil features heavy appearances from the Hand organization. The Hand isn’t going anywhere as this group continues to play an integral part in Daredevil story-lines both classic and new. The first appearance of “The Hand” Daredevil #174 currently sells on average for $25 to $30 in near mint condition. Now is the time to be buying this issue as it is very undervalued (more people will realize this once they finish watching the entire new season).
At the in-store comic convention kick-off live stream – Peter Hogan reported that his Dark Horse series Resident Alien was getting a lot of interest from Hollywood and its TV / Movie adaptation was imminent. This has resulted in all near mint copies from ebay under $5 and all copies on mycomicshop and Milehighcomics to sell almost immediately. Resident Alien’s first appearance is Resident Alien #0 from April 2012. This book should still be available at or below cover at your LCS.
Another book heating up based on Hollywood News is Daredevil Redemption #1. This book features the first appearance of Karla Faye Gideon – a just cast villain set to appear in the Marvel SHIELD television series.
Another book that should see an increase in value because of a television show is The Flash #183 – first modern appearance of the Trickster. Who is to appear in an upcoming episode of Arrow THIS SEASON and is played by Star Wars and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back actor Mark Hamil. Shout out to Mason at the Comic Book Mint for correcting this
The AKA Jessica Jones netflix TV-Show based on the Brian Michael Bendis ALIAS series has had a lot of casting announcements recently. Announcing both the characters the Purple Man and Hellcat. All ebay auctions of the first appearance of the Purple man for under $10 quickly disappeared this week, with a few NEW listings with $30 asking prices! – This book can still be readily found in the wild – Alias #24
Its only time before the same thing happens with the first appearance of Hellcat.
Hellcat first appears in the Avengers #144 – This is a book on its way up as more information comes out about the TV-Series.
Defenders #89 – easily found in near mint condition for under $15. IS NOT THE FIRST APPEARANCE – however, it is a Hellcat Key as it incorporates The Patsy Waller character as the original Hellcat.
Miss America Magazine #2 (Golden Age Romance book) is another book to look for – This book features the first appearance of Patsy Waller and it has been steadily selling about $150. In the marvel storyline, these are flash-back stories that involve Hellcat and are very early appearances. Miss America Magazine #2 being her first “realized” appearance.
Another book to look out for – that could be going up in value based on the Netflix TV-Shows is Daredevil #111 – from Ed Brubakers run, The First appearance of Lady Bullseye, a character that keeps showing up in the Marvel Now Comic universe.
Coming up: Descender gets picked up by SONY – What does this mean for other Lemire creator owned series?
