2018: DC Money Moves

I havn’t written a post in a month… Feels good. Eventually I play to do a write up about some books I missed in the last few months.

With DC’s new Doomsday Clock title they have been doing some interesting things bringing back Alan Moore’s DC created characters. Part of this included Moore’s characters with America’s Best Comics. America’s Best Comics was a comic book imprint of Image / Wildstorm that was purchased by DC when they purchased Wildstorm Comics in 1999 from Jim Lee. In October of 2017 DC released promotional images featuring Tom Strong a character created by Moore in the America’s Best Comics Universe.

This week DC released digital previews of a few upcoming comic books on retailer only website Diamond to entice retailers to increase their orders. One of these previews, Justice League #23, revealed the induction of Alan Moore’s character Sophie Bangs / Promethea in to the DC universe.

The first full appearance of Promethea is Promethea #1. This book currently sells for under $10 in near mint condition. The possibilities of what DC can do with this character are endless, this is a book to be putting on your radar.

One thing to note is that Promethea’s first appears on the cover of America’s Best Comics #1 – a Wizard Magazine promotional preview comic. This book came with Wizard Magazine #91. This promotional comic is a one off story introducing the America’s Best Comics universe.  The book includes one non speaking panel appearance from Prometha. This book also includes the introducing of post of the characters in the America’s Best Comics universe, including Tom Strong. This is another book to be looking for.

Shout out to the Raiders fans that helped put this on my radar.
Thanks to Gary Nusser for his help with Americas Best Comics #1.

Paper Girls – American Newspaper Delivery Guild

This was put on my radar by Good old Matt Skillman of The CBSI on Google Plus.
This was also recently brought up in a Reddit subforum.

Straight out of the letters papers of Paper Girls is a special members only sign up club form.

One user on Reddit Posted what they had received in the mail after sending a self-addressed envelope to the above address – posting this Membership Card and its accompanied letter.

This item could have speculative value down the line as Paper Girls continues and these items are no longer offered. Now is the time to be sending those self-addressed envelopes!

The Bleeding Cool Effect: Misty Knight

Screen shot 2015-04-08 at 1.35.34 AM

Last week news came out about the casting of Misty Knight, Luke Cage’s Love interest, for the new Netflix Iron Fist TV-Show. Very soon after that Bleeding cool ran an article called speculation corner spotlighting Marvel Premiere #20. What Bleedincool neglected to “spotlight” was that Misty Knight doesn’t appear in Marvel Premiere #20, she is just brought up as an idea, which shouldn’t even qualify as a cameo appearance.

Misty Knight does appear, in full, in Marvel Premiere #21. While all online copies have pretty much been scooped up or marked up, this book is still very findable in the wild for under $20, while selling in the $40 to $60 range. Both of these books have potential, however, Marvel Premiere #21 will be the clear winner.

Image Display Program – FAQ and Variant List

Screen shot 2015-04-13 at 10.35.27 PM In November of 2014 Image Comics started a promotion where retailers would sign up and receive copies of select books. The retailer is able to return all unsold copies and only pay for copies they sell – This helps bring Image Comics into markets and stores that might otherwise not order Image, it also allowed retailers to give there customers a taste of what the publisher had to offer. Starting in November these books had unique covers feature the new Image Comics Logo, the program is still on-going however the unique variant covers were discontinued, announced by Image on March 25, 2015. Word?! Bleedingcool Effect on Giant Day

Screen shot 2015-04-08 at 1.35.34 AMBleedingcool for the most part is either late in providing information for their speculators corner or they give information that just throws you off. Today they did a article on Boom’s series Giant Day #1, which has sold out at Diamond in first print and is selling on ebay for $5 to $6. This should be expected to rise just based on the effect Bleedingcool has on the comic market.
Second prints are still available at diamond, first prints are selling for $6 AND can still be ordered on the Boom Website for cover price. With the 1:20 and 1:10 variants also be offered at very reasonable prices. This book has a lot of potential.

Screen shot 2015-04-08 at 1.38.52 AMClick here to be linked to the Boom website where the first prints can still be found in stock for cover price
