There are two books that come out this week that you should be aware of.
This week sees the release of Domino #8. This book features a Morbius the Living Vampire cover. This book has been selling online for $10 to $14.
Another book that has been performing well online is the Rags #1 second printing. This book has sold out at the distribution level and has multiple sales online between $40 to $50.
e News broke today in a New York Times article that Jeff Lemire’s creator owned series Black Hammer from Dark horse comics had been optioned and was in development with Legendary Entertainment. This has caused a resurgence of interest in Black Hammer #1 – which has a Cover A, B, SDCC variant and an ashcan preview.
This week there are two news releases you should be looking for.
This week sees the release of the Scout Comics title, The Source. The first issue is sold out at the retailer level and has been selling for $10+ online. This book has a 1 in 20 Glow in the Dark variant cover as well as a first appearance Ashcan – both the 1:20 Variant and the Ashcan variant are still available on the Scout Comics website for well under what they’ve been selling for on ebay. The main hesitation I have of ordering off the Scout comics website is the uncertainty that these books will maintain there current value.
Another book that has been selling well is the new Source Points Comics title, Ogre #1. Ogre #1 has been selling for $10 to $12 on ebay.
A few media related announcements came out this week and here are the books you should be looking for.
This week it was announced that the villain in the upcoming Jared Leto Morbius film would be Loxias Crown. Several websites are reporting and making the connection to the Marvel Crown character, while it hasn’t been confirmed that Loxias Crown is the Spider-man villain with the former alias of Crown its very possible. Crown first appeared in Peter Parker Spider-Man #76. Crown later becomes known as Hunger in the Marvel universe. As a result of this news this book has been getting a lot of attention.
Another two books that have started to see a climb in value are Captain Marvel Volume 5 #16 and Captain Marvel #17. These two books features the first appearance and the first full appearance of Phyla-vell. Phyla-vell has been confirmed to be a new team member in the Donny Cates written Guardians of the Galaxy comic which has caused her first appearance to start to take off.
J. Scott Campbell’s Danger Girl was very popular when it was released in 1998. How popular? Two years after its release there Sony released a Danger Girl video game for the playstation one console. This week it was announced that Constantin films, the company responsible for the 1994 Fantastic Four movie and subsequently owns the production rights to any Fantastic Four film, has acquired the film rights to Danger Girl. For years people have been chasing the Danger Girl variant covers because many of them feature great J. Scott Campbell artwork while having low print runs. There is even a recalled cover (read more here). While people have been chasing the variants there hasn’t been a lot of love for the first appearance of Danger Girl Team.
The Danger Girl team first appeared in The Danger Girl Preview published in December of 1997 – there are three covers to this book including a limited edition Gold logo foil cover. All three of these book are books to be looking for – The Danger Girl preview was not sold to stores it was distributed in polybag copies of Gen 13 #25 (December, 1997) and Dv8 #14 (January, 1998). The white covers are American Entertainment variants which were sold as mail away special edition variants – all of these covers have publication dates of December 1997.
Another weird Hollywood announcement that came out this week is that Marvel has a X-Men film in development where James Franco has signed on to play Jamie Madrox, The Multiple Man. The first appearance of Multiple Man is Giant Size Fantastic Four 4. For a silver age book that features a first appearance, Giant Size Fantastic Four #4 is currently very reasonable priced.
One other Hollywood announcement that I should have spoken about earlier is that Sony is developing a Morbius, The Living Vampire film. Morbius first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #101. Amazing Spider-Man #101 has sold well in high grade for some time but much like with the Venom film announcement, Amazing Spider-Man #101 has started to skyrocket off ebay. Even low grade copies of ASM #101 have started selling in the triple digits, this is a book to keep an eye on.
