This week sees the release of X-men Gold #30 – I am about to spoil this book so consider this a spoiler warning! This book was advertised as a Kitty Pryde / Colossus wedding issue but inside you’ll find that Kitty Pryde leaves Colossus at the altar and in a complete plot twist Gambit and Rouge end up getting married. The X-Men Gold #30 Secret J. Scott Campbell polybag variant is the only cover to show Gambit and Rouge getting married. This is a $4.99 book that has been selling for $8 to $10 online. It is very possible this book will be considered the first appearance of Mr. and Mrs. X – the new Gambit / Rouge series announced earlier today.
Another book to look for this week is the Josh Middleton cover B of Aquaman #37. This book has sold out at the retailer distributor level and has been selling for $8 to $10 online.
The last book to look for came out last week, Oblivion Song #4 Frog Variant. Skybound released a chase variant for Oblivion Song #4 that was inserted randomly into retailers orders – this variant has a frog on the cover. The Oblivion Song #4 frog variant has been selling steadily online for $10.
When Skybound Comics announced Oblivion Song #1 we started to see speculation that we might see a pink signature chase variant. Skybound has done this twice previously with Walking Dead #171 and Redneck #6 and both of these were done by Oblivion Song artist Lorenzo De Felici. This week pink signature copies of Oblivion Song started popping up online in facebook selling groups and on ebay. Right now there are two copies on ebay, one is $250 Buy it now and the other is $200 buy it now.
Where did these come from?
Skybound Comics offered the pink signature variant as a buying incentive at their booth last weekend at the Wondercon Comic Convention. Anyone that purchased items at the Skybound booth above $25 received a copy of this variant. Skybound will be set up at several conventions over the next few months, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to check to see if they are still offering copies.
Skybound Comics will be set up at C2E2 and SDCC just to name two.
This week sees the release of the highly anticipated first appearance in comics of Rick and Morty character Pickle Rick. Pickle Rick appears in this weeks Rick and Morty Presents: The Vindicators #1. This book has two regular covers, both have been selling above cover, with peak sales of $15, this book has been averaging for $10 on the secondary market.
This week also sees the release of Robert Kirkman’s Oblivion Song #1. (previously discussed here). This book has a special ‘collectors edition’ set that comes with a Gold Foil Oblivion Song #1, a poster, a pin and a statue. While the collectors editions are limited to 1000 copies produced, it was announced last month by Robert Kirkman that due to a production error only 600 of the statues would ship out week of release with the additional 400 statues being shipped out weeks later. While the statue has a suggested retail price of $200, the statues have been averaging $300 to $400 on ebay.
Another book to look for is last weeks Moon Girl #28. This book features the first appearance of Omnipotentis. This book has been creeping up in sales selling from $20 to upwards of $40 online. This is a book to be looking for.
Oblivion Song is a new on-going series written by Robert Kirkman and published by Skybound Comics. Any time Robert Kirkman has a new series out there is usually a lot of hype behind it, the last time Kirkman released a new on-going series, Thief of Thieves, first prints sold out at the distributor level and the book was quickly “optioned” by AMC studios. Keeping all of this in mind, the new Kirkman series Oblivion Song is one to be thinking about. The first issue of the series is released in March.
This week Skybound sent retailers a trade paperback edition of Oblivion Song. This trade features the first four issues of the Oblivion Song series in print. This is so Skybound can increase interest in the series and get retailers to increase their orders. This trade paperback was first given out at New York Comic Con’s Skybound retailer conference making the trade paperback the first appearance of the series. I did read the trade paperback a few months ago and I highly recommend this series. Now is the time to be asking your local comic book store what they are doing with there copy. If Oblivion Song blows up like every other creator owned Robert Kirkman series, this is a book you will want to be holding on to long term.
One other thing to note, on release there will be a limited to 1000 deluxe collectors edition of Oblivion Song, this comes with a statue and a foil edition comic – this item will be allocated and will sell out. Now is a good time to be putting preorders in for this item.
It is also worth noting that the new image comic, Ice Cream Man #1, which was released this week has steadily been selling for $10+ online. This is an anthology book, where each issue is supposed to be a one-shot, so new readers can jump on at any point.
