Rags is the new indie hot book of 2018. Rags was originally published at the beginning of 2018 as a digital only comic and had a coinciding Patreon campaign offering monthly rewards. Some of the Patreon rewards include, posters, physical copies of the comic and exclusive Patreon variant covers. So what is the book about? Directly from the creators page “RAGS follows the misadventures of former USMC Combat Veteran Corperal Regina Ragowski, as she struggles to deal with her debilitating PTSD from her deployment and ouster from the MARINE CORPS as well as the continuing loss from those she loves. All during a zombie plague that has wrecked the liberal state of California.”
In July it was announced that Antarctic press had picked up Rags and would be publishing the book monthly. The first issue was released on September 12, 2018 and almost immediately became one of the hot books of the week. It is important to note that the original self-published version of Rags is “uncensored” while the Antarctic Press books have most of the books nudity covered up.
The first issue of the Antarctic Press edition of Rags also had a limited to 200 copy Virgin Variant cover – this book has been selling for $100 to $200 depending on its condition. The first print of this book is currently selling for $25 to $50 depending on its condition.
Only one copy of the patreon exclusive variant of the first issue has shown up on ebay since its release and it sold for $530. There was also a patreon exclusive physical copy released for the second issue of Rags featuring two covers, a “Normie Cover” and a “Bounty Hunter Variant” cover The “normie cover” has been selling for $70 to $80 while the Bounty Hunter Variant has had three sales ranging from $50 to $320.
Why is this important?
This week sees the release of the Antarctic Press edition of Rags #2. This book has already sold out at the distribution level and like with issue #1 – stores are going to find an unexpected amount of interest in this book. Some copies of the Antarctic Press edition were released at a recent comic book convention – these copies as well as copies selling in presale on ebay have been selling for $40 to $50. Like with the first issue – there is a special variant cover for the second issue that has been selling for $80 to $100.
This week – Rags #2 should be on your radar – this could very well be the book of the week.
After a few small hick-ups with the behind the scenes production, news came out this week that Skybounds Clone has moved to Universal Studios and is moving forward as a Live-Action TV-series. Clone was first optioned in 2013, but since then has seen a steady decrease in value. This is sure to change with more positive news coming out about the series. Clone #1 has two covers on release however it is the more recent very rare and limited Black and White SDCC Skybound collectors box edition that you should be looking for. There are 250 to 500 copies of this book floating around, with average sale prices of $20 and a considerably lower print run then the first print issue, this is the Clone book to be looking for.
Thursday of this week saw the release of NYCC Funko Pop Exclusives at Hot Topic. Still available in very limited quantities at select stores, who are rumoured to receive more on friday – these pops retail for $14.99 and $20 for the larger Pops. The one to look for is the Game of Thrones Iron Throne – this Funko is designed for other Funko Pops to sit on and should have long term holding value. The other POPS are also selling for twice what they are being offered for at Hot Topic. (Two of the items are available on the Hot Topic website, the Throne is sold out online – Here and Here)
Another book to look for is Titan Comics Blood Thirsty #1. Titan Comics can be hit or miss – this book is still available on the Titan Comics website and has been selling for $8 to $10. Great Quick Flip potential, not a book to be holding on to as almost all Titan comics lose value – one can just look at the Tank Girl prices upon release and sell out and compare them to the prices now, most titan comics drop in value.
George Romero’s Empire of the Dead #1 has two variant covers a 1:25 Frank Cho and a 1:75 Arthur Suydam. Both of these books were hard to find when they came out because this book wasn’t ordered in that high of a number on initial release. Those are the books that are going to be the most sought after. Those and Signature Series George Romero. This is a book you don’t want to be holding onto right now because prices are getting crazy and they have a high potential of crashing.
