Hollywood Daze: Wonder-Jesus

Big news came out today from the Millar World Camp. The movies rights of both Supercrocks and American Jesus have been purchased by Waypoint Entertainment. American Jesus was originally published by Dark Horse as Chosen, a three part mini-series later reprinted as a $10 graphic novel by Image comics and rebranded as “American Jesus”. This is important because Chosen came out before the success of the very popular Kick-Ass series as well as before Millar took on major titles at Marvel like Civil War and Wolverine. When published in 2004, this book had very little speculation around it, however, upon release there was much controversy with the content – a 14 year old boy finding out he was the reincarnation of Jesus Christ.

With a reported print run of 20,000 (as reported by Comichron), this is a book to be looking for. With sales in the past day from $3 to $15 – The Chosen #1 is a book on the rise.

Guardians of the Galaxy started filming this week and with that comes some spoilers and hints for speculation. It appears that the movie will have a Planet of the Apes styled Starlord Time travel scene, where his space craft crashes on present day Earth to find the super-hero of the time, Wonder Man in action, played by Nathan Fillion. Nathan has been spotted in full Wonder Man costume as well as on posters plastered around the set as Wonder Man, suggesting the film might take place in the current time of the Marvel film universe. This brings up three books to look for: Avengers #9 – the first appearance of Wonder Man (already a pretty high priced key book). The other two are more easily attainable- Wonder Man #1 – one shot from 1986 and Wonder Man #1 the first issue of the on-going series from 1991.

These two books help cement the Wonder Man solo storyline and should be good short term speculation books.

I have been terrible with posts lately so this week you should expect a week in review post as well as some kind of “last week in review” catch-up post. (Also Shark / Bear Love should be explained in my next post)

Spoilers: THE CW / Walking Dead

*WARNING* This post is going to be filled with spoilers – mostly pertaining to the AMC Walking Dead television series. If you care about the plot and content of the AMC Walking Dead TV Show, this post might not be for you. Be sure to have kept up to date before continuing reading.
The long awaited question walking dead fans have been asking has been answered. When will Jesus appear on the television series? Last weeks episode saw the first appearance of Jesus into the AMC continuity. Shooting up the price of his first appearance in comics considerably. Jesus (Paul Monroe) first appearance was Walking Dead #92, which sold for just under $50 in January. Now with the television appearance this book has shot up to $80 to $90 and is still increasing. This is a book to be holding on to.
Another book that has suddenly started to see interest is Supergirl #16 with sales around $10 in near mint condition and above cover in varying lower conditions. Supergirl #16 is the first Flash / Supergirl cross-over issue in the New 52 and with CW moving forward and releasing production stills from the filming of a Flash / Supergirl cross-over episode – fans have been clambering over this issue. Sure to see an increase once the episode premieres.
Watch-out for a new post in a few days “Two books to grab from the dollar bin”

Week in Review: November 26 / Black Friday

This weeks seems to be all about two things, second issues and black friday deals.

451 media seems to keep bringing the fire, with the second issue of Self Storage already hitting close to $10 on the secondary market and steadily selling for double cover – this book could have legs.

One book that has received a lot of speculation attention is Aimgo comics Straitjacket. Issue 2 came out this week and a lot of sites are pandering their “reported” 500 print run of the issue. This should be regarded as a false flag – the print run is much higher than 500 for this issue, the book will have a considerably lower print run than the first issue, which was under ordered and had a smaller print run, however the 500 reported print run is beyond a fallacy at this point. This book has been selling for $10 to $15 and is this weeks pump and dump winner.

Week In Review: July 9 , 2015

This week a new walking dead book came out with huge spoilers. But there are a few other things I haven’t talked about that I would like to highlight.

This week Dark Horse Comics announced right before SDCC that they have partnered with Universal Cable Productions to develop a few of their properties into TV-shows. There are three titles in particle that have been optioned – Harrow County, Concrete and Umbrella Academy. Umbrella Academy had heated up previously but has since cooled off – this could cause another potential bump but most copies can be found in hot modern comic boxes. The two titles you should be looking for involve Harrow County and Concrete.

Screen shot 2015-07-09 at 2.41.34 AM
Harrow County #1 first prints have been selling for $9 to $13 on ebay.
This is a book that can still be found in the wild and with SDCC happening right now will only continue to climb.

A comic that has been dollar bin stock for the past ten to twenty years has started selling for $40! Dark Horse Presents #1 – The first appearance of Concrete. This is a book that is probably in your local comic book stores back issue bins! Keep in mind This book has a high print run so it won’t be selling this high for long.

A book that has come out this week, following the Mad Max / Vertigo them is Mad Max / Mad Max Part #1 which has been selling for $8 to $10 and has been trending upwards.

Week in Review: June 1st HEAT

Trying to get back onto a regular posting schedule (while also bringing that Radiation related WHITE HEAT), here are some books you should be looking for and thinking about. Five books to think about.

1. Spider-Man Renew Your Vows: J Scott Campbell Website Exclusive (Available here) This is the first time J. Scott Campbell has produced and funded a variant cover with his own artwork. Two variants are available a colour and a black and white, both features Mary-Jane. This two books are being offered for $24.99 and $29.99 on the official store site and has been selling on ebay for $35 – $40 and $40 to $50 in presale. (See ebay sold Auctions here) This is a book you might want to be ordering a few copies of. Screen shot 2015-06-01 at 7.42.16 PM 2. New Mutants Movie Speculation: New Mutants #18 –  Now that a new Mutants film has been green lit by FOX there has been a lot of buzz around possible New Mutant keys. One staple character of the new Mutants is Warlock, a very goofy techno-organic alien. Which pretty much means he’s an alien robot. Warlock first appearing in New Mutants #18 – So out of the dollar bin where is been for the last ten years this book is quickly entering the $10 category – averaging sales around $5 – $10. This is a book you should be looking for and holding on to. (Yanni Gogolak pointed this out to me, check out his google+) 1798885-new_mutants__1983_1st_series__018 3. The New 52 Superman #13. Add this into the weird hot book category. This book is being pegged as having a low print run, lower then the other New 52 Superman books and has been selling for $10 to $20 on ebay. There is also a sketch variant cover that hasn’t been selling at all. This book has quick turn and burn potential. Superman_Vol_3_13 4. GO NINJA GO NINJA GO: Karai has been confirmed to be appearing in the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 movie. Will this film be like the LAST TMNT 2 movie? Pretty much what I’m asking is, Will Vanilla-Ice do the theme song? Karai first appears in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #53 (partial appearance) and has a larger role in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #54, both are great books to be currently looking for. (THANKS RONAN KAN FOR THE HEADS UP ON THIS ONE!) Screen shot 2015-06-01 at 8.06.20 PM 5. Late entry: Lumberjanes has been confirmed for a movie and has been heating up ebay for the past three days! This is another book you should be holding on to, Lumberjanes #1 has three or four variants and all of them have GREAT speculation value.

Hollywood Daze (AGAIN?!): Empire of the Dead

A lot of titles have been getting picked up for TV or movie developement lately so I try not to report on them unless the book starts exploding or is starting to heat up. On Thursday news came out that George Romero’s Empire of the Dead, published by Marvel, was being developed into a television series. On thursday copies of Empire of the Dead #1, (a three part mini-series told in “acts”) was a $10 book, and a signed CGC 9.8 SS that was on ebay for the last year finally sold for $200. Fast forward to today, raw copies of this book are selling for $50 to $150.

Screen shot 2015-05-23 at 12.32.14 AM

George Romero’s Empire of the Dead #1 has two variant covers a 1:25 Frank Cho and a 1:75 Arthur Suydam. Both of these books were hard to find when they came out because this book wasn’t ordered in that high of a number on initial release. Those are the books that are going to be the most sought after. Those and Signature Series George Romero. This is a book you don’t want to be holding onto right now because prices are getting crazy and they have a high potential of crashing.

Hollywood Daze: Captain America : Civil War

Screen shot 2015-03-06 at 2.25.20 AM

Its only taken a good two years but the first Cameo and Full appearance of Crossbones, Captain America #359 and Captain America #360, are finally selling above $10.

Screen shot 2015-05-17 at 12.01.16 AM

This week a picture of Frank Grillo on set in costume as Crossbones hit the internet, and like Raccoons on garbage day, reasonably priced copies of the first appearance of Crossbones have been ravaged off ebay bringing the price up. Last sales for Captain America #359 and Captain America #360 have reached upwards of $50 in near mint condition, which is a huge jump from last week!
Pictures of one of the first scenes to be filmed for Captain America Civil War leaked online two days before the Crossbones news – it shows them filming a funeral scene. Could this mean Captain America dies? This week they are planning on filming a fight between Flacon and Crossbones. Another possibly sign that Captain America dies in the Civil War Film.
So what does that mean for speculation?
Now is the time to buy up Captain America #25 – the death and funeral of Captain America. If you’re going to buy CGC copies you will want to seek out Joe Simon SS – as those will hold a huge premium over all other copies.
